The cloud plays an important role in any end-to-end IoT solution development. Cloud enablement is the process of creating, deploying and operating some or most of an organization’s IT infrastructure, software and resources through the cloud. Cloud enablement shifts in-house IT to a public, private or hybrid cloud environment.

The main objective of this phase is to prepare a roadmap and plan for the proposed Cloud enablement journey. The main activities involved are developing a cloud strategy, scope, and goals. This is followed by detailed planning and design of cloud migration. The scope, dependencies, outcome measures, and infrastructure requirements, etc. are identified and planned.

As a first step, we will help define or refine your motivation and goals for adopting the cloud. Most commonly observed motivational factors include:

  • Reduce operational risk

The second step is to align the business and technical requirements of IT division and business units. We will apply our industry proven cloud strategy framework in determining the most suited cloud approach - leveraging public or private cloud or hybrid cloud. We will ensure that industry best practices are applied as well as avoid common mistakes to reduce risks, save money, and ensure you meet and exceed your goals and objectives.

While there are several compelling reasons (both technical & financial) to move business applications to the cloud; the reality is that not all IT task is right for the cloud. There may be regulatory or business demands / concerns that may stop some applications from being an ideal candidate for the cloud.

But this does not mean that all other applications should also be grounded. The Hybrid Cloud is the game changer here, allowing you to best utilize both public and private cloud and leverage the best of what each has to offer. The public cloud can be used for non-sensitive IT applications and the private cloud for the sensitive ones. This can be achieved in an agile, flexible and cost-effective manner. In this phase, the actual migration to the cloud gets executed using our two-pronged approach. Applications are re-hosted or re-deployed (Lift and shift) or re-designed or re-factored (Rewrite and Decouple) using an iterative approach and leveraging DevOps. The applications are validated for functionality and performance in the target environment. After validation and through established release management process, application cutover and decommissioning executed.

In the Operational phase, the transitioned applications get executed in the new environment and incidents if any are handled. The applications are continuously optimized with monitoring and continuous integration and deployment.
